Balance At Your Standing Desk
Still a rare sight in many offices but growing strongly in popularity because of the health benefits, a Rooboard balance board for your standing desk could be the best investment you make in your body this year.
Prolonged Sitting Is Bad For Us
Studies have shown that sitting for long periods of times can cause serious health problems. A recent article in the Huff Post called it the Smoking of Our Generation.
Standing desk spaces are becoming more commonplace as studies prove that people should sit less. However, this is not practical in many workplaces and standing in the same spot for a full day can also prove to be painful on the lower back, legs and feet.
The best solution is to perform a gentle workout at your desk. You only need to do a couple of minutes every hour. The Rooboard is perfect for this because of its compact and portable size and because it engages the core and stabilizer muscles.
This means you are using several muscle groups, even when you only performing a simple exercise, like the balance squat.
This workout will not stretch your trousers or ruffle your skirt. It is perfect for a quick break from sitting at your desk if you are unable to leave your desk.
If you are brave enough to do more than the two exercises featured below in front of your work colleagues, there are many more standing exercises you can perform on your Rooboard.
Exercise 1: Calf raises: using one pad maintain balance while performing a calf raise. Try and keep the (working leg) as straight as possible – 10x each leg
Exercise 2: Single leg balance squats: start by maintaining balance on one leg, breathe deeply and keep your back straight engaging the core – 10x each leg
Single leg balance squats: finish in a half squat position
“From the professional boxers to the ultraman triathletes all my athletes love the Rooboard. It looks deceptively simple but I dare you to try it – you will instantly see its potential.” Damian Orfanoudakis – Athletic Trainer and Kinesiologist, Canada
Designed by a UK based surfer and body weight training expert to increase core strength, balance, power and fitness and to be portable, the unique Rooboard balance and core board has just gone on sale in the UK and US.
This amazing fitness product adds instability to over a hundred exercises to increase total body strength and fitness. The instability element forces the core and stabiliser muscles to engage which in turn increases the intensity. This means the users can exercise for less time than they would have previously for substantial gains in strength, balance and muscular symmetry.
The Rooboard is especially good at increasing core strength. High levels of core strength are vital for postural strength and to prevent lower back pain and injuries.
At only 30cm in length it is the smallest balance board on the market. It is also the most functional and is unbreakable. It will not damage flooring or sink into the ground when used outdoors because it uses EVA foam pads as the balance points rather than plastic or wood. The indented grip surface is comfortable and shock absorbing and means it can be used from the hands or forearms as well as the traditional seated and standing exercises. The Rooboard designer Mason Gilmour works in London and needed a product that would fulfil all his exercise requirements. He also wanted a product that was portable, as in the daily commute on the London Underground and for travel training.
When he discovered this product did not exist he spent two years testing with 3D printing models and fine tuning homemade prototypes before launching the Rooboard. The Rooboard is receiving rave reviews from athletic coaches, surfers and fitness enthusiasts.
