Transform core and postural strength, balance, stability and fitness with a single product. Designed by Londoner Mason Gilmour-Platt to stay in shape for surfing, the Rooboard combines the functionality of many pieces of fitness equipment in a single portable package.
Current users of the Rooboard include surfers, city workers, professional boxers, MMA fighters and members of the British Combined Services Disabled Ski Team. These early adopters have seen significant gains in their stability, agility and postural strength.
The instability element forces the core and stabiliser muscles to engage at all times which in turn increases the intensity of the exercises. This is the secret to the performance of the Rooboard and results in a shorter workout session for enhanced results.
Many users say a 5-10 minute workout can be the most intense they have ever had.
The Rooboard was designed to be portable and to be used in almost any location. Exercises can be performed in the office, at home, outdoors or in the gym. They are perfect for commuters and those who use a standing desk.
Because the workout area is so small when using a Rooboard they are being used locations not normally associated with exercising. This includes stairwells in the workplace, in airports during long haul layovers and even on planes to improve circulation.
“A few years ago I invited friends and fellow surfers to participate in the workout I used to stay balanced, agile and in shape for surfing. I still surfed as often as possible but this was becoming more difficult as I worked long hours in London. I called the workout Surfgym.
“The Surfgym workouts went down very well. What didn’t work well was the amount of equipment I was using. While each piece of equipment worked well individually they had serious limitations. Large, heavy, unwieldy and sometimes dangerous for new users this equipment was also extremely difficult to transport between venues and impossible on the tube.
“What I really needed was a product that combined elements of each piece of equipment in a single, truly portable package. When I discovered it didn’t exist, I decided to make it. The Rooboard Balance and Core Board was finished in late 2013. It received such positive feedback from friends, surfers, fitness professionals and medical professionals that I launched it officially with a small first batch,” says Mason Gilmour-Platt
