Professional boxers Erik and Golden face off in old school gunslinger stance on the Rooboard. Balance training can be one of the most enjoyable parts of your training programme. You cannot help but smile when you see your training partner with arms flailing. Can you do better though?
Coordinated balance and stability training is also a great measurement for progress. Changes in strength and muscularity can take some time. Improvements in balance and functional core strength come quickly and you take your body to amazing levels of stability.
Balance training means we improve the way our body moves around its centre of gravity. Training enables us to do this unconsciously and against opposing stresses or unexpected changes in the environment.
Exercising for balance and stability is a part of every professional sports persons training regime. In this video professional boxers Erik and Golden are performing narrow squats on the Rooboard balance trainer, with professional conditioning and sports specific coach Damien Orfanoudakis. Balance training is fun, especially with a face off!
Special Rooboard Features
Many balance or wobble boards have a sandpaper like grip surface or plastic knobs that are hard on the hands or feet. The Rooboard has an indented EVA grip surface which is also raised 3mm above the deck for extra comfort. This means it can be used from the hands, forearms, feet and for seated exercises without causing skin irritation or scratching.
We wanted a product that would not damage flooring or sink into the ground when used outdoors. We solved this by placing the flat surface of the balance pads against the floor and the fulcrum point against the bottom of the deck. The pads have a calculated foam density and the use of concave and convex surfaces between the pads and deck create the perfect instability for balance and core training.
“Necessity, who is the mother of invention.”
Independent fitness start-up Surfgym launched the Rooboard Balance Board and Core Trainer.
Designed in the United Kingdom by Mason Gilmour DipSpSt, a former triathlete, fitness trainer, health club manager and life-long surfer. The Rooboard was created to fulfil specific training requirements within tight parameters. These being, it had to produce solid results, be extremely durable (in order to take a thrashing) and be easily transportable.
The Rooboard was born out of a passion to increase fitness, strength and balance. It had to increase muscular symmetry and performance for action sports like surfing, skating and skiing. And, it had to fit busy proactive lifestyles and be extremely portable, as in the daily work commute, flights, hotel rooms and those cheeky moments when you want to workout quickly and discreetly.
The Rooboard you are hopefully about to add to your fitness routine, is the culmination of many years of prototypes, testing and feedback. We think of it as the Swiss Army knife of fitness equipment – it brings many different pieces of equipment together, in one durable and functional package. Press and media kit.
