Why Launch A Product?
“A few years ago I invited friends and fellow surfers to participate in the launch of a workout I used to stay balanced, agile and in shape for surfing. I still surfed as often as possible but this was becoming more difficult as I worked long hours in London. I called the workout Surfgym.”
“The Surfgym workouts went down very well. What didn’t work well was the amount of equipment I was using. While each piece of equipment worked well individually they had serious limitations. Large, heavy, unwieldy and sometimes dangerous for new users this equipment was also extremely difficult to transport between venues and impossible on the tube.”
“What I really needed was a product that combined elements of each piece of equipment in a single, truly portable package. When I discovered it didn’t exist, I decided to make it. The Rooboard Balance and Core Board was finished in late 2013. It received such positive feedback from friends, surfers, fitness professionals and medical professionals that I launched it officially with a small first batch,” Mason Gilmour-Platt – Rooboard inventor.
The compact size and unique design features enable the Rooboard to be used in almost any location at any time of day. These short muscle hacks have positively disrupted the way many people approach their fitness training and schedule their workout sessions.
The Rooboard has been an underground hit in the UK and US, selling more than 1500 units, mainly through word of mouth. The London surfers who invented, produced and distributed the first production run themselves want to share the Rooboard and its many benefits with as many fellow fitness enthusiasts as possible.
The Rooboard combines the functionality of many pieces of fitness equipment in a single portable package.
It creates instability which forces the stabiliser muscles to engage, which in turn increases the intensity of the exercises performed. This means shorter body weight workouts for increased gains. These are what we call muscle hacks.
From targeted muscle group exercises for core and balance, to HIIT and sports specific workouts the Rooboard can compliment your existing training sessions or become your single piece of goto fitness equipment.
- Many balance or wobble boards have a sandpaper like grip surface or plastic knobs that are hard on the hands or feet. The Rooboard has an sunken EVA grip surface which is also raised 3mm above the deck for extra comfort. This means it can be used from the hands, forearms, feet and for seated exercises without causing skin irritation or scratching.
- Made from solid polypropylene with a convex centre deck for extra strength the Rooboard is extremely strong and designed to flex to cushion explosive exercises. The deck has three concave indentations on its bottom surface which enable it to be used as a balance board, fitness platform and angle/slant board.
- Extremely resilient to stress each deck comes with two EVA balance pads. During prototype testing we were able to identify the perfect degree of hardness for the pads. This mixture of hardness and give, in order to create the instability or ‘wobble’ is key to the incredible performance of the Rooboard. We wanted a product that would not damage flooring or sink into the ground when used outdoors, we solved this by placing the flat surface of the balance pads against the ground/floor and the fulcrum point against the bottom of the deck. The use of concave and convex surfaces between the pads and deck create the perfect instability for balance and core training.
The Rooboard has many different exercise options. From single exercises targeting a specific muscle group to full HIIT and VIIT sessions. Some of your options include:
